Terms of service

The service
ShortSmith turns a written prompt into a short video: it writes a script, produces visuals, records a voiceover, times captions and renders an MP4. Using the service means you agree to these terms.
Credits
Work is priced in credits. Credits are deducted when a generation starts, not when it finishes. If a generation fails, the credits are returned to your balance automatically.
Credits are granted with each billing period and do not carry over to the next one. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred between accounts.
Plans and access
Some formats are limited to particular plans, as shown on the pricing page. Free accounts receive a starting credit balance, and their exports carry a small ShortSmith badge. Paid plans export without it.
Your content, and who owns the output
You keep ownership of the prompts and scripts you write. Subject to your plan being in good standing, you may use the videos you generate commercially — post them, monetise them, use them in ads.
Two caveats worth understanding. First, AI-generated imagery may not be eligible for copyright protection in some countries, so you may not be able to stop others using something similar. Second, where a video uses stock photography, that footage remains under its original licence.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use ShortSmith to produce:
- content that impersonates a real person or organisation, or that is presented as a genuine record when it is not;
- sexual content involving minors, or content that sexualises real people without consent;
- harassment, threats, or incitement to violence against any person or group;
- deliberate disinformation about elections, health or public safety;
- material that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark.
We may suspend an account that breaches this section. You are responsible for what you publish and for complying with the rules of the platforms you post to.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Generation depends on third-party AI providers; if one is unavailable, generation may be slower, degraded or temporarily unavailable.
Affiliate programme
Affiliates earn 30% of what their referrals actually pay, for as long as those customers remain subscribed. Attribution runs from a referral link (60-day window) or from the affiliate's own discount code. Self-referral does not earn commission.
Payouts are made once a balance passes 100 USD. We may withhold commission on payments that are refunded or charged back, or where referrals appear to be fraudulent.
Liability
The service is provided as-is. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
